A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §30-1-20, relating to requiring certain professional boards regulating health care professions to gather information for the Higher Education Policy Commission and the Legislative Oversight Commission on Health and Human Resources Accountability concerning expected retirement dates.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §30-1-20, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL STATE BOARDS OF EXAMINATION OR REGISTRATION REFERRED TO IN CHAPTER.

§30-1-20. Certain boards regulating health care professions to gather and provide information to Higher Education Policy Commission and Legislative Oversight Commission on Health and Human Resources Accountability.

    (a) The Board of Medicine, Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses, Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses, Board of Pharmacy, Board of Dental Examiners and Board of Osteopathic Medicine shall gather and submit to the Higher Education Policy Commission and the Legislative Oversight Commission on Health and Human Resources Accountability, by December 1, 2014, information about anticipated retirement dates of the members of the licensed professions. The information is necessary for the commissions to plan for future workforce needs for health care professionals.

    (b) Each of the boards listed in subsection (a) shall inquire of each of their licensees about the practitioner’s anticipated retirement date. Requests and responses by email are acceptable. The boards shall bear the costs of gathering the requested information and providing it to the commissions.

    NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require certain professional boards governing various health care professions to inquire of their licensees’ anticipated retirement dates, and to provide that information to the Higher Education Policy Commission and the Legislative Oversight Commission on Health and Human Resources Accountability to enable better planning for future workforce needs.
